Role Overview

The Mental Health Program Manager will report to the Chief Operating Officer and work with program team members and other staff across programs. This position offers an opportunity to inform, design, and build programs that support mental health based on best practices and work directly with individuals by connecting with supporters.

Responsibilities:

  • Informs and designs educational programs based on research and best practices in mental health, collaborating with other team members
  • Improves staff competence by providing educational resources and training as needed
  •  Work with supporters to determine mental health challenges to connect them to longer-term solutions to face their adversities. Clients may also be facing challenges with substance abuse, suicidal ideation, employment concerns, disease, bereavement, and other challenges

General Description of Position

Reporting to the Founder & CEO, theVice President of Fundraising & Development serves as a critical team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions for because I said I would. In partnership with the Founder, this position is responsible for board development, all fundraising and development activities. The successful candidate will help forge new relationships to build because I said I would’s visibility, impact, and financial resources. The Vice President of Fundraising & Development will design and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support.

The Vice President of Fundraising & Development will have primary responsibility for establishing and implementing the foundation needed to grow to $2 million in fundraising annually funding through the solicitation of major gifts, federal and state grants, special events, and corporate and foundation support.

This position will diversify because I said I would funding sources and work closely with other team members to secure funding for new initiatives. In addition, the Vice President of Fundraising & Development will work closely with the board of directors and support board members as they take on a more active fundraising role.

It is expected that the amount raised by because I said I would will increase in future years as the Vice President of Fundraising & Developmentsystematically and effectively strengthens the organization’s overall fundraising capacity.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Develop comprehensive fundraising strategies to reach: Collaboratively work with the Executive Leadership Team to create and implement a holistic development strategy. Aim to secure corporate sponsorships, foundation support, government grants, and other fundraising activities, targeting an annual revenue of $2M within 3 years.
  • Foster relationships with 35 key donors giving major gifts of $10,000 or more: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with corporations and major donors following a strategic fundraising process. Employ effective relationship-building techniques to encourage long-term commitment and increased contributions.
  • Lead board recruitment and management for a team of 12 board members: Identify, recruit, and onboard suitable candidates for the Board of Directors. Oversee all board-related processes and programs, fostering a collaborative and effective board culture.
  • Oversee grant-writing processes that leverage artifical intelligence: Establish a systematic process for grant writing. Write compelling grants to support Chapter programs and character education initiatives, effectively communicating the need, impact, and value of our work.
  • Collaborate on financial strategy: Work closely with the Founder to develop and implement the organization’s financial strategy. Ensure alignment between fundraising efforts and overall financial objectives.
  • Create financial forecasts: Develop detailed financial forecasts to help anticipate major changes in funding or trends in the sector. Utilize these insights to adapt strategies and maintain the financial health of the organization.
  • Monitor donor information in Salesforce CRM: Manage all donor data, providing detailed statistical analyses to the Board and Executive Leadership Team. Use this information to inform strategy, identify opportunities, and track progress against fundraising goals.
  • Implement donor stewardship programs: Develop and implement a stewardship program aimed at deepening relationships with donors. Create personalized communication and recognition strategies to express gratitude and encourage ongoing support.
  • Supervise direct reports: Oversee the work of current and future direct reports, including the bookkeeper, interns and future full-time staff. Provide guidance, support, and constructive feedback to ensure their professional growth and the effective execution of their roles.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • +7 years of professional experience in a nonprofit organization; demonstrated success in a development function (managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources)
  • Previous history of raising $500,000 or more annually as an individual goal supported by collective efforts. 
  • Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives

Job Title: Guest Experience & Events Manager 

Location: This is a slightly hybrid role with very strong focus on being on-site in Walhonding, OH 43843. This position is able to work from home 3-7 work days a month as long as they have a functional work environment at home.

We’re looking for a dedicated and dynamic individual to join our team as the Guest Experience & Event Manager. In this role, you’ll be the primary point of contact for our guests, ensuring they have an extraordinary experience from the moment they arrive until their departure.

Responsibilities: 

  • Manage guest experience from reservation throughout their visit for approximately 1,000 primary guest contacts a year, including but not limited to taking reservations, conducting event/program planning calls, changing reservations, guest’s requests and greeting guests upon arrival. 
  • Work in conjunction with staff to ensure that the facilities are ready for families and groups throughout the year by communicating unique needs, check-in requests and other special requirements in a documented fashion in our CRM system (SalesForce) and other software. 
  • Plan and execute 30 corporate/nonprofit retreats a year: Work closely with corporate and nonprofit clients to understand their objectives and craft personalized retreat plans. Oversee the entire event lifecycle, from concept development and budgeting to on-site management and post-event wrap-up. 
  • Manage wedding event planning for 8 weddings a year: Liaise with couples to understand their vision for their big day and create bespoke wedding packages. Handle all aspects, including venue decoration, catering, entertainment, photography, and any other services required. 
  • Collaborate with +15 vendors overall: Establish and maintain strong relationships with a diverse network of vendors. Coordinate with these professionals, including hot air balloon pilots, florists, photographers, caterers, and entertainers, to provide excellent service and meet the unique needs of each event. 
  • Maintain accurate guest records: Keep detailed records of all guest interactions, reservations, payments, and feedback. Use this data to personalize service, make improvements, and address any recurring issues. 
  • Support business development efforts: Help support the process of creating a pipeline of events and programs, leading to sustained revenue growth. Meet with potential clients, including schools, nonprofits, correctional professionals, wedding planners, and other groups, presenting our venue as an ideal choice for their events. 
  • Coordinate services and manage logistics.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: 

  • Past experience in Guest relations, events, and reservations 
  • Bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree in business, event planning, hospitality management or communication or equivalent experience is preferred. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and capacity to problem solve. 
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends based on seasonal demands of retreat groups. 
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others in a team setting.
  • Experience with Salesforce or other CRM, booking systems (Airbnb, Vrbo, etc.) and strong computer skills.

As a Fundraising Coordinator Volunteer, you will play a pivotal role in supporting and coordinating fundraising activities for humanitarian non-profit Because I Said I Would. The intern will assist the Account Executive and senior staff by performing administrative and entry-level duties which may include conducting market research, identifying business opportunities, emailing prospective clients, making cold calls, participating in meetings, assisting the Sales department, and other duties as needed. 

The volunteer may attend weekly staff meetings, regularly scheduled meetings with their supervisor, and bi-weekly meetings with other interns for professional development.

About the Role:
As a fulfillment volunteer, you will play a pivotal role in supporting and coordinating shipments for organization merchandise & speaking engagements for Alex Sheen, the founder & CEO of Because I Said I Would. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a passion for making the world a better place.

The volunteer may attend weekly staff meetings, regularly scheduled meetings with their supervisor and bi-weekly meetings with other interns for professional development.

Possible Role Responsibilities (one or more of the following areas):

  • Preparing event supplies for shipment 
  • Data entry for leads and lead verification. Input contact information in the database
  • Assisting with special projects that may include folding, cutting, and printing needs
  • Packing, weighing, labeling, and shipping merchandise and supplies
  • Packing Group Orders to be sent out
  • Counting promise cards
  • Data entry for chapter, speaking engagement, fundraising, newsletter, and character education inquiries from events
  • Taking inventory of merchandise
  • Help organize/distribute incoming shipments to the warehouse
  • Delivering/picking up promise cards from groups that help count. Currently, there are two locations in Coshocton County and three in Knox County
  • Work with the groups that count promise cards when they visit camp for a few hours
  • Keep the Recreation Shed straightened up for incoming guests
  • Printing and pressing signs with sublimation
  • Preparing letters for bereavement families coming to camp for a stay
  • Helping address and send out promise cards when requested

What You’ll Learn/Contribute:

Understand the role of shipping, logistics, and fulfillment management in a nonprofit organization (also applicable to for-profit businesses). Develop logistics skills including: Salesforce system management, compassion & empathy practices in business, relationship building, inventory & distribution practices, and database management. 

Skills You’ll Need For This Role: 

  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in a fluctuating climate. Some work will at HQ and some will be in the warehouse with heat in the winter but is still a warehouse. In the summer, there is no AC in the warehouse. The Rec Shed is not heated
  • Use of MS Office suite – basic Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Candidate must be available for a consistent weekly schedule (schedule can be determined with the Fulfillment Manager)
  • Detail-oriented with numbers
  • Typing speed of 25 words a minute or more 
  • Previous shipping experience is great, but not required

The Camp Host Coordinator duties would include a mixture of skills to support the overall efficiency of the Guest Experience Manager, with the goal of providing exceptional service to our guests. This position offers a unique opportunity to work closely with our Hospitality Management team. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a passion for creating a near-perfect stay experience for guests.

The intern may attend weekly staff meetings, regularly scheduled meetings with their supervisor and bi-weekly meetings with other interns for professional development.

Possible Role Responsibilities (one or more of the following areas):

  • Compiling welcome folders that include maps, local attractions details, grocery options and restaurants, and information camp property amenities  
  • Greet guests during events
  • Ability to communicate with guests about services, amenities, and local attractions  
  • Assisting as needed with event prep, tear down, and guest management

This hands-on role involves a variety of tasks such as painting, cutting wood, moving materials, trimming trees, and fixing things with hand tools. You may also be involved in tasks like repairing toilet seats, unjamming doors, removing window A/C units, and changing light bulbs.

**Role Responsibilities:**
– Undertake general construction and landscaping tasks
– Perform maintenance and repair work as needed
– Ensure that the camp facilities are kept in good condition

**What You’ll Learn:**
– Practical skills in construction, landscaping, and facility maintenance
– Problem-solving and hands-on skills in various repair and maintenance tasks

About the Role:

The Public Relations Intern will help expand our organizational reach and increase visibility. This position assists with creating original PR and social media content and services, including news releases, media relations, event management, and managing social media for strategic initiatives. The intern will work directly with the CEO in conjunction with the COO.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing, writing, and distributing approved press releases
  • Plan and prepare social media posts and videos with regards to viral content strategies
  • Connect and contact influencers, YouTube personalities, podcasters, and media news stations to create opportunities to spread awareness of the organization and its mission
  • Researching and present a developing social media strategy to the CEO
  • Assist with proofing and editing written materials for spelling, grammar, and style

Program Impact Intern

Job Title: Program Impact Intern

Location: Remote

The Program Impact Intern will work directly with the Senior Program Impact manager and the COO who will oversee the intern program. The Program Impact Intern’s main priority will be to support our current Chapter programming in schools and correctional facilities. They will organize and input program impact data into Salesforce, evaluate program assessments, and research for outreach and recruitment lists. They will assist in creating reports, attend virtual trainings for note-taking, and support various program projects, including material development.

Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

– Organize and input program impact data into Salesforce

– Score and evaluate program evaluations to gauge impact

– Research and develop lists for program outreach and recruitment

– Help create reports to evaluate and present program data

– Attend virtual training with new chapters for observation and note-taking
