I sent 25 of these cards and this letter to Governor Romney, President Obama and to the top two candidates running for each of the 33 open seats in the U.S. Senate…

Last year my father was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer. The disease would spread and take his life. He passed away on September 4th, 2012. His death inspired me to write to you. Please bear with me as I explain…Like any son, I want to remember the best of my father, but my dad was not particularly newsworthy. He wasn’t a championship athlete or famous author. He wasn’t a war hero. But what my dad did do was keep a promise. If he said he was going to do something, it would certainly be done. My dad wasn’t too fond of excuses. Too often in life we make promises, both little and big, that we do not honor. A promise to your Dad. A promise to yourself. It becomes easy to say “I’ll get to it” or “tomorrow.” I want to remember my Dad and the promises he kept. I want to help others remember the commitments they have made.Enclosed I have included 25 promise cards. The only text on the card is the phrase “because I said I would” and they are quite easy to use:
1. Write your promise on the card.
2. Give the card to the person you are making that commitment to.
3. Fulfill your promise.
4. Get your card back and keep it as a reminder that you are a person of your word.
The Plain Dealer, Ohio’s largest newspaper, heard about my offer to send 10 cards to anyone requested them at no cost and helped me share this message. Over the past several weeks, I have sent thousands of cards to people across the country, including you and your opponent. During this election year, I am sure that you have made quite a few promises. In a way, you are in the business of promises. I’m sure you and I do not share all of the same beliefs and ideologies, as I suspect no two individuals do. However, I think we can both agree that people are counting on you to keep your word.As you continue your campaign, and perhaps take office in January, please use them to remember the commitments you have made to others.
Keep your promises, just like my father did with me.
