Alex Sheen, Founder
Alex’s work has been featured on ABC World News with Diane Sawyer, Good Morning America, the TODAY show, Steve Harvey, CNN, The Los Angeles Times, NPR and many other programs. Through his philanthropic work, his personal commitments and the stories of our supporters, Alex speaks to audiences around the world about the importance of keeping a promise. Alex has spoken at over 136 events in 2016 and is a three-time TEDx closing speaker (Click here to see them). He has spoken to audiences ranging from middle schools to the world’s largest consulting firm. Due to his personal sense of duty to the social movement, 100% of Alex’s speaking engagement fees are given to because I said I would, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Before his life as nonprofit leader, Alex was a Corporate Strategy Lead at Hyland Software, an organization featured in Fortune’s Best Companies to Work in the United States. As the youngest manager in a global company with over 1,500 employees, he established and managed Hyland’s corporate-wide Innovation Program. Alex decided to leave this life and pursue a life of philanthropy and service after the loss of his father.
Amanda Messer, Co-Founder
At a young age Amanda learned the affect that promises broken have on relationships. Her father struggled with addiction and was not good with keeping his commitments to his little girl. Amanda was drawn to helping start because I said I would knowing that there are other children whose lives are deeply affected by broken promises. Amanda uses her deep personal connection to promises to inspire and motivate her audiences to become better with their commitments.
As the youngest of five children, Amanda grew up in Lorain, OH. In November of 2013, Amanda became because I said I would’s first full-time employee after over a year of volunteering her time to the cause. Prior to co-founding because I said I would, she worked at Hyland Software – one of Fortune magazine’s top 100 places to work in the United States. Amanda has also served as the Vice President for the Cleveland User Experience Professionals Association. She currently resides in Lakewood, OH with her son, Trent, and her dog, Miska (pronounced Meesh-ka).
